1 – 1 Coaching
Are you hard of hearing and looking for someone who truly understands the unique and often challenging landscape you live in day to day? Perhaps you have friends and family who care, but as much as they want to be helpful, they can’t fully know what it is like to walk in your shoes. I am hard of hearing and through life experience, trial and error, research, education, identifying and accessing resources (plus considerable energy, patience and hard work) have created a foundation of practical knowledge about navigating through the hearing world with more success. It would be my privilege, as an objective and knowledgeable guide, to assist you in living your life as fully and completely as possible.
Family and Friends Consultation
Do you have a family member or friends who is hard of hearing? Do you sometimes find it challenging to communicate in ways that feel satisfying and effective? Perhaps there are times you feel at a loss to know how to overcome the normal obstacles that hearing loss places in relationships? Does it feel like your family member or friend may be hard of hearing, but any discussion of the issue is inappropriate , like an elephant in the room that everyone knows is there but no one has permission to talk about?
I have experience with hard of hearing family members. I’m happy to share a few strategies that I developed that helped us communicate. As well, with friends and my life partner I continue to expand my knowledge, awareness and practice of healthy communication patterns. I’m available to help you grow and strengthen your relationship with those you care about who have hearing loss.
Workplace Support
For Managers
Managers are sometimes challenged and perplexed about how to assist an employee who is hard of hearing. Do you have a staff person who is hard of hearing? Have you wondered if there are proven strategies you could use that could support them in achieving their potential? What allows for the most effective communication one-on-one and in group/team settings? How might you help ensure your staff person is contributing as fully as they are capable of in their role?
Because of my extensive work experience in a variety of settings I’m keenly aware that the Manager plays a key role in the productivity of a staff person who is hard of hearing. I can educate and assist Managers and work-groups, helping them understand the dynamics of hearing loss in the workplace. The outcome can be a more positive work environment, which leads to a healthy, respectful and satisfying work setting for all parties.
For Co-workers
Do you work with someone who is hard of hearing? Would you appreciate knowing concrete things you could do that could be of value to your co-worker? Perhaps you want to do the right thing but you’re not sure what is most appropriate or what might be less than helpful, intrusive or distracting?
Thirty years of working with a wide range of co-workers has given me the opportunity to learn from the receiving end which strategies are most useful when working with a hard of hearing individual.
